On the way back from @writingxwriters Manuscript B

On the way back from @writingxwriters Manuscript Boot Camp in Tahoe last week, we stopped just this side of the Columbia River on Hwy 97, to see this reproduction of Stonehenge. It's all in concrete, built to look like the original before the ravages of time. It's a Veterans memorial, each column tagged with the name of a man who died in the first World War. The Great War. The War to End All Wars. This part of the Columbia is well known for its wind. As we crossed over the water, even though it was mid-November, someone was out there windsurfing. In a wet suit. But still. We like to find ways to be brave and to feel alive.

What's that? Oh, just a bear in my neighbor's tree. It fell out, this morning, and sat stunned in her driveway for the longest time. But then it rallied, and, being a bear and all, climbed back up. Barry, she's named it.

I wish that I could share with you the evening air

I wish that I could share with you the evening air, trees' green breath, the Earth's last exhalations of the day, lingering as the sky cools. Birds twitter, whistle, whirr all around me. A woodpecker knocks on hollow wood. Sparks and I swish through the grass.
